A tracheostomy opens the airway and improve breathing. Our sub acute team works to safely cleanse the stoma, changing the tracheotomy tube as scheduled and ensure that our patient is as comfortable as possible. Suction care includes scheduled removal of mucus build up due to cooler, drier air provided by the tracheostomy tube to allow for easier breathing.
Infusion therapy is provided by our medical team when oral medications aren’t a feasible treatment option and can include antibiotic/antiviral treatments, anti-emetics, anti-hemophilic treatments, enteral nutrition, hydration and pain management. Our team of well trained nurses work with our surgical team to determine an individualized program created to the specific needs of each patient.
Pain management can be simple or complex based on the patient’s cause of pain. After meeting with the patient and careful diagnosis, our sub acute specialists work with other team members to use a variety of skills and techniques to minimize the pain suffered. This can include interventional procedures, medication management, physical therapy and chiropractic therapy, acupuncture and other alternative therapies.
Our sub acute nurses provide daily check-ups or around-the-clock care depending on the needs of the patient to ensure the utmost comfort during their post-surgical recovery. This includes monitoring for signs of infection, working with our pain management team, medication management and care education for both the patient and family to ensure a healthy recovery upon returning home.
